Smart Mechanical Systems (SMechS) group at Mechanical Engineering Department at Bilkent University has been developing controller design methods to develop Optimal Modular Systems (OMSs) with smart modules focusing on the problems from the Automotive, Manufacturing, and Robotics fields since 2009.

Starting from realistic industrial examples, we devise and test new algorithms to adjust module design parameters and module tasking inputs to improve the optimal performance so that the performance gap between the overall optimal design and the optimal modular design is minimized.
